My Story & Sales Journey: I’m your host, trainer and sales coach, Jennifer Darling… I’ve been working in sales for over 25 years. My professional career started in advertising in a small town in Northern Michigan where I would often get stuck in the snow driving to cold calls and Chamber meetings to drum up business for my first real job at a television station.
After freezing my tush off there, I relocated to Sacramento, CA where I worked for a radio company selling commercials on the Classic Rock station to local businesses… it was so much fun!! My favorite client was a motorcycle shop. On one weekend event, we had 2500 bikes come to our BBQ and Bikini Bike Wash with a rock band in the parking lot. You’ve never seen anything like it!
After three years, I set my sights on the biggest TV station in the market, KCRA TV-3 and landed one of my best jobs ever! Within the first six months I found myself selling the Salt Lake City Olympics. My check was $25,000 from one month of sales and I bought myself a new convertible Ford Mustang!
I had a lucrative 20 year career in media sales, eventually was promoted to sales manager (that’s a whole other story), but I will say the best part… I led my top sellers to make tons of money, we made our budgets and bonuses, and from the bonuses my boss bought a new Audi and I bought a Big Screen TV and a shiny new red Lexus!
After years of imagining I would have my own business, I got a shitty boss and that boss helped me finally make the move.
For the last 8 years, I’ve turned my sales knowledge into a thriving speaking and consulting business where I help small business owners with their sales and marketing strategies, plans and implementation. Along the way, I also got trained and certified by ICF as a coach to support my clients in the mindset piece that really gets them over the sales humps. I’ve written several books, including the very popular Increase Your Leads with LinkedIn and spoken on many stages, most notably, BMW Motors (I didn’t tell them about the Lexus).
My greatest sales accomplishments are that I survived 9-11 as a salesperson, the “great recession” as a sales manager, and Covid as a business owner… in all three situations, my income and those around me grew to new heights.
My clients are celebrating success too! My client Nora who owns an Emergency Management Consulting firm gave me a glowing testimonial that by helping her get the right sales system, she has grown her business by 200%. My newest client Estelle, an Image Consultant, got three new clients in the first three months we worked together from the strategies I taught her using LinkedIn.
